NEW! Effective September 5, 2023:
ONLY low-income residents will be eligible to receive rebates. To receive a rebate, applicants must provide proof of low-income qualification through an utility assistance program (the first page of the utility bill dated within the last 12 months showing CARE or FERA low-income utility rate) or a current CalWORKS or TANF membership card.
If you are not a low-income resident and you have already started an application, please submit your application by September 1st to ensure that your rebate will be processed.
Effective Sunday, April 2, 2023:
ONLY Level 2 EV Chargers that are hard-wired will be eligible for a rebate under the Residential EV Charging Incentive Program. (Applicants must include proof of installation by a licensed electrician or a final, sign-off electrical city permit.)
Self-installations (plug-ins to existing 240V outlets) will no longer be eligible and will not be accepted to qualify for a rebate.
Self-installation applications received prior to the Sunday, April 2nd deadline will be processed and approved on a case-by-case basis.
Program Details
The South Coast Air Quality Management District (South Coast AQMD) and the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee (MSRC) has established a residential Electric Vehicle (EV) charging incentive program to offset Level 2 (240v) EV charger hardware costs. This program will be available to residents within the South Coast AQMD’s four-county jurisdiction.
The program will provide an incentive to buy-down the cost of residential chargers, which typically range from $400-$800. The program is administered on a first-come, first-served basis and provides up to a $250 rebate or the cost paid for the charger, whichever is lower. Low-income residents can qualify for a total rebate of $500 or the cost paid for the charger, whichever is lower
Program Requirements
- Charger would need to be in place for a minimum of three (3) years and would be considered a permanent, not temporary, installation
- Only hard-wired installations (no 240V outlets) will qualify for a rebate; applicant would need to obtain any required city or county electrical permits for installation
- Charger will need to be a new residential Level 2 (240V) charger that is UL listed or certified by an equivalent nationally recognized laboratory.
